Billionaire philanthropy and the problem of domination: The curious case of Elon Musk
Late last year Elon Musk made an intervention in the Russo-Ukrainian War. His 'peace plan' was well received in Moscow, but not anywhere else. Musk was told by Andrij Melnyk, Ukraine’s ambassador in Berlin, to "F@ck off". It was a widely shared sentiment. Musk was not a diplomat, a politician, or an international affairs expert, so he should mind his business
But why was Musk pilloried for this intervention when the ultra-wealthy have been celebrated in other areas of international affairs?
This is the topic of my new piece for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
