Resistance in the Time of Coronavirus

Should people protest during a pandemic? My latest post for Cambridge University Press’ fifteeneightyfour blog argues that the risks posed by COVID-19 are not distinct, in a morally relevant sense, from the risks faced by previous generations of protestors who fought white supremacy.

The pandemic has made the deep systemic injustices affecting people of colour in the United States and the world at large undeniable.

Protesting, even if it breaks the rules, is justifiable given the profound impact of racism on the fundamental interests of large numbers of people.
